This August, 42 young people from our group—including Scouts and Explorers—took part in the West Sussex International Jamboree (WSIJ), joining Scout and Guide groups from across the county, as well as welcoming international guests from Kenya, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Germany, Norway, the USA, Japan, and Ireland.
A Week Packed with Activities
Over the seven-day camp, participants enjoyed a wide range of activities, including sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, climbing, caving, abseiling, arts and crafts, science experiments, tomahawk throwing, archery, air rifle shooting, zorbing, bush crafts, plumbing, a cricket simulator, dance, theatre combat, self-defence, DJ-ing, and much more.
Evenings were filled with entertainment, featuring live music, DJ sessions, and culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.
Celebrating Achievement
A special highlight of the event took place at the Scouts’ Own on Sunday, where two of our young adults were presented with their King’s Scout Award—the highest honour a Scout can achieve.
Supported by a Dedicated Team
The young people were supported throughout the week by a committed team of 10 volunteer leaders, who arrived early to set up the camping area and worked tirelessly to look after, cater for, and assist the group. After the camp concluded, they ensured everything was packed away and the site was left clean.
An additional 5 adult volunteers from our group, alongside other members of the camp leadership team, played vital roles in supporting WSIJ, including working with the Safeguarding team, high-adventure activities, guest services, media, sub-camp leadership, and site catering.
Congratulations to all our young people and heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who made this international jamboree such a memorable success!
