Scouts Log Cabin Camp – Jan 2024

Date: 22nd Jan 2024 Author: Mark Eastman

We arrived on a cold Friday evening at Bentley Copse a site we haven’t used for a few years over towards Dorking. With 25 Scouts, 3 Young Leaders and 6 Leaders it was going to be a busy weekend. After settling in and a few friendly disagreements about which bed was whose it was a quick bite to eat before heading out for some wide games. There was the traditional first night silliness and little sleep was had by some. The Saturday saw the Scouts produce a supervised high quality cooked breakfast. We then headed out to do some bottle rockets. I think we spent more time trying to get one of the rockets out of a tree than we did firing them off but fun was had. A couple of quick dives out of the way of a misfiring rocket saw us heading back in for lunch. After lunch the young leaders ran a paper airplane challenge with prizes being given for the longest flight in both distance and time. Before dinner we had a chaotic beetle drive and then moved onto the traditional make your own pizza dinner. Wide games followed and a slightly earlier bed time. After a later start on Sunday morning we went for a hike across the Surrey Hills. There was a slight issue at the start when we found ourselves locked in at the site. It was quickly resolved and we were off on our hike in beautiful sunshine. Once complete we had some lunch, tidied up and sent a group of tired hopefully happy Scouts off home.
