Remembrance Sunday Observed by 2nd Ifield Scout Group

Date: 9th Nov 2025 Author: Mark Eastman

Members of 2nd Ifield (St Margaret’s) Scout Group, gathered on Sunday at St Margaret’s Church, Ifield for a solemn and dignified Remembrance Sunday service, joining together with parents, friends, and members of the wider community to honour those who have given their lives in wars and conflicts. The church was filled to capacity, reflecting the community’s deep respect and commitment to remembrance.

The service was led by Father Dominic Desouza-Campbel, of St Margaret’s Church, who guided the congregation through prayers and reflection. In keeping with the spirit of renewal and continuity, the occasion was notably youth-led, with members of the group taking central roles throughout. Members of the Scout group led the Colour Party, read prayers and scripture, and participated in other key parts of the service. Their poise and reverence were a powerful testament to the enduring relevance of remembrance among the younger generation.

In his address, Father Dominic spoke of the importance of honouring those who have gone before us, drawing parallels between remembrance and the values expressed in the Scout Promise—a pledge of duty, respect, and service to others.

Following the service, the congregation processed to the Ifield War Memorial, passing through a striking field of poppies created by 2nd Ifield Scout group. There, a two-minute silence was observed, and a wreath was laid in memory of the fallen.

The event served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by previous generations and the responsibility of the present one to remember them. The active involvement of the young people of the Scout group brought a sense of hope and continuity to this annual act of remembrance.

Special thanks were extended to Scarlett Kennedy from the Drake Explorer Scout Unit for providing photographic coverage of the occasion.
