Our First Scout Camp after Lockdown – July 2021

Date: 22nd Mar 2023 Author: Scout Websites

After a long time without camping, it was amazing to be able to run a summer camp albeit on a slightly smaller scale than usual. Despite the difficult year we had the highest number of Scouts on summer camp we have ever taken. Camp was set up well by the Scouts despite not having done it for a while (or ever). Dinner was cooked centrally we spent some time playing games before bed. The next day we had a traditional camp breakfast. The next challenge set for the Scouts was to build a camp gadget. They were challenged to build a drying rack which they engaged in with enthusiasm. The results speak for themselves.

Mass rounders followed after lunch. It was a close game to the end.

Dinner was back woods cooking where we cooked potatoes, sweet corn, chicken and fish. Followed up with baked bananas and apples. More wide games followed. The next morning brought a brief bit of sun shine so out came the slip and slide. The challenge was set to try to reach the end and there was some spirited efforts. An added bonus was that we had some lovely clean Scouts.

As all the Scouts had been so good we thought we would treat them to dinner out. This came with its own challenge as we were going to Smith and Western which was a bit of a trek in the rain. However, a cracking dinner was had by all prior to trudging back in the rain. Sunday focused on breaking camp and getting some tired Scouts home. Hopefully all the Scouts enjoyed the camp and it was brilliant to get back to camping.
