Explorer Scouts fundraising – March 2024

Date: 18th Mar 2024 Author: Mark Eastman
Sunday saw the Explorer Scouts fundraising for their 2024 Sweden expedition, offering refreshments at a South Downs Orienteering event. Below is a report from Peter, one of the parents who organised it.
The weather was not helpful for setting up, but Luke had provisioned the large group gazebo as a shelter. In spite of the rain and mud, we had a functioning cake and drinks stall set up and ready to go before the main custom came for their refreshments.
Bottom line is that it looks like we took just over £280 (equivalent to over £1/person participating in the orienteering event).
Particular thanks are due to Luke for leading the whole operation, Chris for helping on the day, and Anna for filling in for me on the stall (after I took longer than intended getting round my orienteering course) after I’d helped to set things up. Thanks are also due to the individuals who provided cakes (including, of course, the Drake Explorers who cooked some cakes during their meeting on Thursday).
The Organiser of the orienteering event made a particular point of thanking us for attending her event: the refreshment provision was certainly enjoyed by those who took advantage of it. I’m sure that we would be welcome to do something similar at another event in the future to raise more money this way.
Any other event wanting refreshments or a barbeque please contact us.
