Explorer Scout Summer Expedition to Bavaria: Sunday 24th July – Sunday 7th August

Two years on from when the Unit originally planned to go, the expedition went ahead.

Andrew Eastman, the expedition organiser and leader, left two days early to do a lot of preparation work and sorting out some of the equipment and fuel that we were to use.

The unit flew out Sunday evening and stayed in a local scout group’s building. On Monday morning the Explorer Scouts left for 3 days backpacking through the Altmühl valley, while the Network members and some of the leaders canoed the River, before everyone met up on the Wednesday evening.

Thursday morning saw the Network/leader team head off to the alps for three days hiking, climbing Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. The Explorers carried on with another three days canoeing.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday saw the group spend time at a Scout campsite relaxing, visiting a folk festival, swimming and tobogganing, as well as meeting scouts from around Germany.

An early start Wednesday saw everyone return to the Alps for some more alpine mountains.

The expedition finished with time in Munich for some sightseeing, souvenir hunting and a traditional Bavarian meal, before out flight home late Sunday evening.
