2023 Target sports

Date: 22nd Jan 2024 Author: Mark Eastman

Our Shooting provision has changed following the setup of our second troop on Fridays. This year we started with hourly sessions every Friday after Scouts evening for the older members of the group who can shoot standing. As part of this several of our members took part in the Camelot Postal Shooting championship, shooting two cards a month for the first six months of the year.

Later in the year we also introduced a monthly Saturday afternoon session for all our members. Tis allowed Cubs to also shoot and learn the skills to improve their aim.

In October we took a group of our more experienced shooter to Bisley for the National Scout Rifle Championship where the young people, and adult volunteers, got to compete against other Scouts from across the country, in a variety of ranges for both guns and pistols. This was a successful championship with us coming home with three trophies, congratulations to Rebecca and Harry.

We also provide some archery sessions at both Beaver and Cub Camps, a wonderful experience and challenge that the young people took on.

During the spring we provide Tomahawk throwing to all sections in the grounds of our HQ. Some great section meetings allowing all members to try their hand at another target sport.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
