70th Anniversary Family Camp

Date: 2nd Jul 2026 Author: Mark Eastman
This weekend, the Group and their families took over Stanford Scout Camp Site for our annual Family Camp. Everyone joined together on Friday evening, pitching tents and fuelling up with dinner before a rounders match and a cosy mini campfire. We then headed to bed hoping for a good night’s sleep, only to be awakened at 3:30am by an hour of spectacular thunder and lightning passing directly over the site!
On Saturday, the main breakfast conversation was definitely the overnight storm. Once energised, the activities kicked off: inflatables, soft archery, tomahawk throwing, a cave bus, crafts, archery, and a pioneering project building a Trebuchet catapult. After lunch, we held our annual water fight—thankfully, the blazing sun dried everyone off in no time!
During the day, we welcomed current and former members to celebrate our 70th anniversary. For our afternoon break, we enjoyed a fantastic milestone cake cut by Keith Prior, our longest-standing member (since 1982).
Saturday’s dinner was a massive, wonderful Brazilian barbecue cooked by our Brazilian families, which perfectly fuelled everyone up for more rounders and another great campfire. The evening wound down with a screening of England’s final World Cup pool game for those who wanted to watch—and thankfully, they brought home the win!
Sunday morning saw a quieter start, but after another filling breakfast, the activities got underway for a final morning of fun. Most adults took the chance to pack their tents away early; fortunately, we only saw a couple of raindrops. After lunch, the site was cleared, camp was dismissed, and everyone headed home for a well-deserved rest.
A massive thank you to Claire, one of our Group Lead Volunteers, and her incredible team of helpers for organising and running another amazing, successful Family Camp.
Roll on Family Camp 2027!
