Explorer Scout Expedition to Sweden – July/Aug 2024
This summer saw the Explorer Unit along with Shackleton Explorer Unit travel to Sweden for their bi-annual international expedition. Flying to Stockholm, and then coach they travelled to Kungshol Scout Campsite outside Rättvik. Having set up basecamp, the Explorers, split into three groups and set out for two day mini expeditions, all getting a chance to hike, cycle and canoe.
At the end of the first week the unit travelled to Vässarö, a scout campsite based on a island on the edge of the Baltic Sea. Here their spent time meeting other scouts, playing volleyball and football with them. The also had time to chill out, do some team building, climbing and paddleboarding.
The last part of the expedition saw us returning to Stockholm and being a little touristy. The first day was spent at Gröna Lund amusement park along with an evening of Deep Purple in concert. The second day was a free day, a large number of the young people visited the Abba Museum, others Ikea, and all purchased their tourist presents to take home.
A great two weeks seeing the young people develop and grow whilst experiencing Sweden and some of what it has to offer.
