Scouts Complete their Scout Expedition Challenge Badge – March 2024

Date: 22nd Mar 2024 Author: Mark Eastman

Over the weekend of 16/17 March, Oliver, George, Katka, Dylan, Philip, Harry, Charlie S, Charlie H and Billy did their Scout Expedition Challenge Badge.

We started in Pound Hill, Crawley at one of our Scout leader’s houses, leaving there we hiked down the Worth Way to Stanford Scout Campsite.

As the hike required a purpose, on our way we searched for some geocaches.

When we arrived to Stanford Scout Campsite, we got out the tents, most members had paired up, one carrying poles and one carrying the tent. The pairings were Oliver (me) and & Billy, Harry & Philip, Dylan & Charlie H and George & Katka. Putting up our tents took about 15 minutes to do this task, but it was a reward when we were all done.

We had some visits at Stanford, firstly Craig our Group Scout Leader met us there. Then just before dinner Tom one of our Scout Leaders showed up to see us, and after dinner Russell, another Scout Leader, came to see us. Then we got the fire going, using matches and cotton.

About 23:00 we went into our tents until 07:35 Sunday morning, in the middle of the night Tom came up to visit us. Then in the morning Tom cam again while we were packing away tents, other group kit and our own kit which we had put in the toilets to keep dry. We set off about 09:00 and hiked back to the Acorn HQ, arriving about 12:00.

Doing the hike was to complete the Scouts Expedition Challenge badge, which made us all one step closer to earning our Gold Chief Scout Award.
