Active Support
The Scout Movement depends upon adults who, in their spare time, offer leadership to Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and the Scout Network. These volunteer leaders need and deserve support.
2nd Ifield Scout Active Support Unit is open to Adults over the age 18. The Active Support Unit offers scouting for it members along with giving adult support to the Group, District and County. There is no requirement to have been involved in Scouting before joining. All that is required is a willingness to volunteer some time to support Scouting. Membership is open to both those not involved and those who already have an appointment. There are currently 70 members which include leaders, parents and friends of the group. We have a varied programme which has included Bowling, Christmas Dinners, Deaf Awareness, Climbing, Canoeing, Social Evenings, Talk on South Africa. The Unit have also supported the group in many ways, Vet Car Run, Bonfire Nights, Barn Dances, Equipment Checking, etc. This year saw the unit provide support at all the sections annual camps/expeditions as well as organising and running a number of specialist skills camps including mountaineering, canoeing, caving, etc.
As well as offering support to the young members the SASU offer training support to its own members through first aid, safeguarding, adventurous activity training, etc. There is also a number of social events that take place through the year.
All members of the unit are fully DBS cleared and fully committed to the unit, whether it is just 1 or 2 events in the year through to out nearly every week supporting an event, the full commitment is down to the individual. Members is offered as a full member who makes the promise and wears uniform and Associate members who still have the same opportunities without making the promise.
