The Group members celebrated the 75th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8th May. Due to the current situation with COVID-19 we could not join together for anything, but the group still put together a programme of events to remember the sacrifices and to celebrate 75 years of peace in Europe.
Preparations for the day started early in the week with members spending time creating decorations for their houses, colouring in bunting, union flags and posters. These were hung up around the town with pride.
On the morning of Friday 8th May, members of the Group put their uniforms on and went out on their doorsteps and joined with others at 11am to spend 2 minutes in Silence as we remembered and gave thanks for this special day.
Following lunch and a special VE Day TV programme, the group went out in their gardens to join in a socially distancing street party.
Whilst we were celebrating, some members of the Group were also remembering the original VE day celebrations, and the street parties that were held.
