2019 was a very successful year for the young people and our Group. We welcomed new Leaders and Activity Instructors to our Adult Volunteer team, the Saturday Climbing Sessions became more and more popular with members and the public and the Rifle shooting squad
grew in numbers again. We are very lucky to have such amazing volunteers who give their time for all our children and young people but we always need more to deliver the adventurous programme. If you’d like to join the team, as an archery instructor, kayaking helper, climbing instructor or if you prefer to be involved behind the scenes looking after the Acorn or our kit, please come and see us!
All Sections from Beavers to Explorers have had many nights away this year, including sleepovers, Log Cabin Camp, Mountain Activity Weekend, Survival camp and cycle camp. The Group had success at the Bisley Shooting Championships in October with a Gold Medal for Akela and numerous high results across the disciplines. We held two great community events, the Community Summer Fun Day and the Fireworks on Ifield Green which were enjoyed by members and Ifield as a community. We are hoping to expand on these in 2020.
Our Members will continue to work for the highest awards in Scouting including the Chief Scout Awards in all sections, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and to become Queen’s Scouts. We are immensely proud of all our Young People and look forward to celebrating more awards this year.
The aim of the Group Executive in the coming year is to concentrate on expanding the leadership and parental support for the Group, purchase the new trailer for the Paddlesports kit that Brian Eastman has worked tirelessly to raise funds for, and to look at developing our facilities further to offer more adventurous activities.
With parental encouragement, the dedication of the tireless volunteers and the enthusiasm of the young people we know this year will be full of adventure for us all and help our young people to develop #SkillsforLife.
