On the 13th April four of our Active Support Unit entered, for the first time, The London Monopoly Run joining 1500 Explorer Scouts, Scout Network, Senior Section Girlguiding and their Leaders from all round the country and further afield. The event requires teams of 4-7 members to visiting different locations around London, photographing themselves and answering questions. The closer locations were the lower value of points whilst those that required further time to get to were of a higher value.
Our route started from Bounds Green where we travelled to St Pancras and Angel, and then onto Museum of London and Paternoster Square. We then moved on to Southbank from Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge, back over the river to Parliament Square, Trafalgar Square, on to Green Park and then Hyde Park. Marble Arch and Oxford Street to Carnaby Street followed. Finally, onto Piccadilly and Leicester Squares before returning to Go with 2 minutes to space.
It was great to see so many Scouts around London, everywhere you looked you could see scout scarves of various colours. They were all working together in their teams to complete the challenge.
Over 22 kilometres walked, along with Underground and Bus journeys, additionally the train and tube journeys to and from the start, meant we travelled for about 16 hours on the day, 12 hours was spent on the Monopoly run.
Next year’s run is already in the group calendar and we hope for some more teams along with some Explorer teams.
