Over the weekend of 28th – 30th June Scouts and Explorer Scouts travelled to the River Thames along with some of the Adult members of the group for our annual water camp. This year saw us used a Guide campsite, as opposed to a farmer’s field, which had direct access to the river. Friday evening was spent setting up the camp, before everyone had a chance to relax enjoy time together.
Saturday morning following breakfast saw the young people split into groups and spent their time developing their skills in both canoe and kayak.
The afternoon saw everyone paddle to Chertsey weir where some of the more advance paddlers played in the wave train. Once back at site everyone joined into games on water concluded in the canoe slide.
The evening we enjoyed a barbeque and chilling out after a hot day on the river.
Sunday morning saw the group try out dragon boating using the campsites boat and instructor. This gave everyone a chance to try out a new craft and learn to work as a team and in time with each other.
Following the excursion in the dragon boat we had one more session on the water before a late lunch which involved more games and everyone ending up in the river.
Following lunch, the campsite had to be cleared ready for the journey home.
All the members enjoyed their time on the camp, not just on the water but also spending time together off the water. We all now look forward to next year’s camp.
