2018 saw the opening of the new Cub Pack, the start of the Saturday morning climbing sessions and the continued growth of our Adult Volunteers in both the Leadership and Active Support Teams.
We will be concentrating on developing the skills of the adults to enable them to instruct our young people on the wall, on the water and in the mountains and providing adventurous Activities across the District.
The Group Shooting Section had success at Bisley Shooting Championships in October and continues to grow on Friday evenings at the Acorn.
Our Members will continue to work for the highest awards in Scouting including the Chief Scout Awards in all sections, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and to become Queens Scouts. 2018 saw Hannah and Katie become our 2 newest Queens Scouts, the highest award a young person can achieve, and we look forward to hearing about their presentation at Windsor Castle this year.
The aim of the Group Executive in the coming year is to concentrate on expanding the leadership and parental support for the Group. Should you wish to get involved and become a paddlesports instructor, a Beaver Leader or even a Quarter Master please do let Kerry and David know. The vacancy board is in the hall by the kitchen and we always need more helpers to keep delievering an exciting and full programme.
For members the main event during the year will be their section’s summer camp or expedition. The intention of the Scout movement is that all members take part in these essential experiences. Please make sure that these events are in you diaries and where possible all members attend. Group Family Camp in July is a chance for all sections and their adults to enjoy a weekend in the sun together and I hope to see all of you there.
With parental encouragement, the dedication of the tireless volunteers and the enthusiasm of the young people we know this year will be full of adventure for us all and help our young people to develop #SkillsforLife.
